What is Google Indexing API: “Google Indexing API is the feature which allows developers or SEOs to get the newly-created page or blog post indexed instantly.”

Goodbye, sitemap.xml! Welcome Google Indexing API! Unlike sitemaps.xml, which are able to crawl your website and populate the file with the most important pages and which would later be crawled by search engines, Google’s Indexing API will let the Googlebots (almost) instantly know that a new page or post was published on the website, or that an old page updated its content.

The huge advantage of using Google Indexing API is that you will be able to create new content and get ahead of your competitors in SERPs (Search Engine Result Page) right away. So, having your newly-created content instantly indexed will help you stay on the top for longer and beat your competition.

For WordPress websites, there’s already a plugin which helps you implement Google Indexing API without knowing too much programming. The Indexing API plugin was built by Rank Math and can be found here.

NOTE:

Google’s John Mueller announced that the Indexing API is only available for Livestream and JobPosting markup content websites for the moment and will be soon available for general websites. However, this plugin already does its job pretty well.
